Creative Pottery Workshop for Children with Developmental Disabilities

Vršac City Museum and Regional Centre for Protection of Banat Cultural Heritage Organised Creative Pottery Workshop for Children with Developmental Disabilities

Organised by the Vršac City Museum and the Regional Centre for Protection of Banat Cultural Heritage, a project named: Smile of Friendship was launched on Friday, 17th July 2015, with the aim of organising a string of educative creative workshops for children with developmental disabilities, pupils and students of Jelena Varjaški elementary and secondary school.

The Vršac City Museum ceramicist Dragan Spasić conceived the programme of the creative workshop. Together with Marija Keri, teacher at Jelena Varjaški School, and art historian Sanja Marović, he organised this first workshop in a string of workshops which have been planned. Each child had pottery clay available. They were given instructions on how to create forms easily and all of them used this opportunity for free and creative expression.

On this occasion, the guest teacher brought a couple of boxes with sweets to the workshop which was greeted by great rejoicing of the children. In addition, it has been foreseen that each child participate with his/her works at the exhibition which will be organised by the Museum at the end of the workshop cycle. Most importantly, the children were given an opportunity to learn something new and create something beautiful.

The children were very interested and they proved excellent in creative expression. The results were more than satisfying in the sense of establishing appropriate communication. We really enjoyed playing and broadening knowledge through the play in a spirit of creativity and friendship’, said Mr Dragan Spasić.
