Aprons from Banat Exhibition
On the eve of the Wreath of Vršac, one of the greatest international folklore festivals in the country, which will start on Saturday, 11th July, an exhibition of ethno-photographs from the Aprons of Banat collection of the Romanian national costumes, was opened in the Vršac City Museum yesterday evening.
The aim of the exhibition was to present the ethnographic, cultural, and artistic values of the identity of the traditional women’s costume – the apron, from the collection of the Romanian national costumes. The author of the exhibition, Ms Daniela Barbulov Popov, did it by illustrating the artistic development of the apron in the period between the end of 19th and the middle of 20th century.
After the introductory word by Mr Milan Filipović, Director of the Vršac City Museum, ethnologist Vesna Stankov presented the author and the exhibition to the visitors, making a reference to the practical influence the national costumes had through history creating the information on affiliation and values of certain people by means of their artistic sign language.
I want you to enjoy watching these ornamental compositions, which – in addition to their artistic values, reveal the creativity, the skill and the mastery of the women who created them’, said Ms Daniela Barbulov Popov, addressing the numerous visitors of the exhibition. The author pointed out that the ornamental composition on the illustrations presented at the exhibition have the ability to offer precious information, through the sign language of art, on the aesthetic needs of a society, determined both by the evolution of socio-economic factors, and by the progress of technology.
The exhibition was organised under the auspices of the Provincial Secretariat of Culture and Public Information, as part of the Project in the field of protection of intangible cultural heritage and the contemporary artistic creativity of national minorities in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in 2015. The citizens of Vršac and numerous visitors of the Wreath of Vršac festival will have the opportunity to see this exhibition in the Konkordija museumbuilding in Vršac over the coming month.
